[선데이뉴스신문=김건우 기자] 「‘아예더본 아운야미’- '민주화운동은 성공한다.' 미얀마 시민과 영화인의 용기 있는 저항과 투쟁을 지지한다!」

오는 4월 29일(목) 개최하는 제22회 전주국제영화제 둘째 날 4월 30일(금) 전주영화제 현장에서 대한민국을 대표하는 국제영화제 집행위원장들이 한 데 모여 미얀마 민주화운동지지 성명서를 낭독하는 기자회견을 개최한다. 

이 자리에는 미얀마 민주화운동 지지 성명서 발표와 함께 대한민국의 영화인들이 앞으로 함께 연대하고 연대기구 등을 결성하는 방향에 대한 발표도 함께 이뤄질 예정이다.

미얀마 민주화운동 지지 성명서는 아래와 같다.

-미얀마 민주화운동 지지 성명서-

한국의 영화제들은 민주주의를 향한 미얀마 시민의 용기있는 실천에 연대와 응원의 마음을 전한다. 미얀마 군부의 쿠데타와 시민들에 대한 무자비한 학살을 규탄하며 이를 즉각 중단할 것을 촉구한다. 특히 쿠데타에 저항하고 실상을 알리려는 영화인들에 대한 구속과 수배를 즉각 중단하라. 미얀마 군부는 시민에 의해 정당하게 선택받은 민간정부에게 권력을 즉각 이양해야한다. 

지난 2월 1일 미얀마 군부는 쿠데타를 일으켜 미얀마 시민의 바람인 민주 정부를 무참히 무너뜨렸다. 군부는 지금까지 미얀마 시민의 민주주의 회복을 위한 저항과 바람을 끔찍하고 참혹하게 짓밟고 있다. 이 때문에 어린이를 비롯한 수많은 사람이 죽임을 당하고 있다. 나아가 미얀마 시민은 군부의 폭력과 살상 속에서 두려우나 용기를 품고 다양하고 창조적인 방식으로 저항과 투쟁을 지금도 해내고 있으며, 이길 때까지 싸우겠다는 각오를 다지고 있다.

특히 미얀마의 영화인은 민주주의를 회복하고 인권과 자유를 수호하려는 시민 불복종 운동에 앞장서서 목소리를 내고, 힘과 지혜를 모아 평화적으로 저항하는 운동에 함께하고 있다. 미얀마 영화인은 민주주의의 바탕이 되는 표현의 자유와 예술의 자유는 모든 사람의 기본권이며, 이러한 권리를 침해하는 제한, 통제, 검열을 당장 멈추기를 군부에 강력히 요구하고 있다. 또한 선거로 뽑힌 의원을 포함한 모든 수감자를 풀어 주고, 표현의 자유와 예술의 자유를 존중하고 미얀마 시민의 바람을 존중해 주길 요구하며 미얀마 영화인에 내려진 수배령을 당장 멈추라고 외치고 있다.

미얀마 군부 쿠데타 이후 한국의 시민사회단체들은 미얀마 군부에 쿠데타를 멈추고, 선거로 뽑힌 대표들과 시민사회 활동가들의 당장 풀어 주고, 2020년 11월의 총선 결과에 대한 존중과 민간정부로 정권을 넘길 것을 요구했다. 그와 함께 대한민국 정부, 유엔과 여러 나라 정부에 미얀마 군부를 당장에 압박하고 민주주의를 위해 할 수 있는 모든 노력을 하도록 요청하고 있다.

현재 미얀마 쿠테타 군부의 폭력은, 멀지 않은 과거 대한민국에서 일어났던 독재의 폭력을 생생하게 기억하게 한다.

또한 민주주의와 평화, 인권과 자유를 되찾기 위한 미얀마 영화인의 용기 있는 행동은 과거 한국에서 표현을 자유를 얻기 위한 한국영화인들의 싸움을 또 기억하게 한다. 그리고 우리는 그때 기꺼이 연대해 준 세계의 영화인들을 떠올린다. 이에 한국의 국제영화제는 우선 미얀마 영화인에 대한 지지와 연대로 그들의 용기와 함께하려 한다.

나아가 아시아 영화의 발전과 영화를 통한 아시아의 연대는 영화를 통해 대안적, 민주주의적 가치를 실현하여 문화예술의 자율성, 예술과 표현의 자유, 소수자의 시민권에 대한 지지와 수호할 연대 기구를 만들어 나갈 것이다.

우리는 코로나19 대감염의 상황을 겪으며 깨달았다. 늦었지만 지금이라도 국경을 넘어선 인류의 지혜를 모아 지구촌의 위기 상황을 슬기롭게 이겨 나아가야 한다. 이를 위해 평화의 가치와 민주주의의 질서를 존중하는 전 지구적 연대를 드높여야 한다. 아울러 군부의 폭력에 맞서 민주주의를 되살리려는 정의로운 비폭력 저항에 함께하는 미얀마 영화인에게 힘찬 지지와 연대의 마음을 전한다.

-STATEMENT BY THE KOREAN FILM FESTIVALS ON MYANMAR-

Korean film festivals support courageous resistance and protest of citizens and filmmakers of Myanmar.

Korean film festivals express solidarity and encouragement to the people of Myanmar, standing in their brave steps towards democracy. The festivals strongly condemn the ruthless massacre against the peaceful protesters and insist for all the violence to stop. 

We also call for the immediate cease of searching and imprisoning of filmmakers who are trying to tell the truth in resistance to the coup. We urge the military to immediately cede its power to the rightful democratic government, chosen by its people.

Korean film festivals condemn the violence against peaceful protestors that has led to numerous deaths, including that of the children. In particular, we express our strong support for the filmmakers in Myanmar who are raising their voices at the head of the civil disobedience movement that aims to peacefully restore democracy and protect human rights and freedom. 

The festivals stress the need to uphold democratic processes, refrain from violence, fully respect human rights and fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression through arts. The festivals urge the military to immediately release all those detained arbitrarily including the members of the Government and to retrieve all-points bulletin on Myanmar filmmakers. 

Korean film festivals express our support for Korean civil associations and their efforts to engage other ASEAN countries in the dialogue, by urging each country to do everything in its power to pursue the democratic transition in Myanmar.

The ongoing violence of the military in Myanmar brings us to vivid memories of the violence of dictatorship that took place in Korea not so long ago. 

Moreover, the bold actions of Myanmar filmmakers to regain democracy, peace, human rights, and freedom remind us of how the Korean filmmakers fought for freedom of expression in the past. 

We have not forgotten the filmmakers from around the world who stood with us at that time. Accordingly, Korean international film festivals reiterate our solidarity and support to the Myanmar filmmakers and their courage. 

The development of Asian cinema and the solidarity of Asia formed through cinema will realize alternative democratic values, further establishing a foundation for solidarity organizations to support and protect autonomy of cultural arts, freedom of expression and arts, and civic rights of the minorities. 

Korean film festivals stress the need to gather the wisdom of mankind regardless of the borders and overcome the crisis together. 

To this end, we raise global solidarity that respects the value of peace and democracy. We reiterate our support and solidarity to Myanmar filmmakers who are protesting the military violence in order to restore democracy.  

Korean film festivals will continue to stand with the filmmakers of Myanmar and their democratic aspirations.
